Alkalizing Your Body: Do You Know How Important It Is?

Understanding the balance between acidity and alkalinity is an essential tool for anyone’s wellness toolkit. If you’re looking to make healthier choices, aside from joining the local health clubs, it’s important to know what alkaline is and how it can affect your daily routine.

What Does Alkaline Really Mean?

You have probably heard the term “alkaline” before, and no, we’re not referencing a battery. We are talking about our health and the foods we eat every day.

To be as immune as possible, our pH levels, which are the levels that show us how acidic or alkaline our body is, must be higher than seven pH to be considered healthy. The higher this number is, the more alkaline our bodies will be.

This number, to put it in simple terms, will show you how immune your body is to susceptible diseases, so the lower the number is, the more sensitive you will be to a variety of issues such as allergies and arthritis.

Should I Be Concerned?

Whenever you’re making poor diet choices or are even stressed throughout the day, you’re exposing your body to a toxic environment, forcing your body to pull minerals from other parts of the body such as your bones, organs and teeth to neutralize your alkaline levels if they are low.

This, unfortunately, can lead to a hard working body, leading to skin problems, suffering organs and a list of potential diseases a mile long. Higher alkaline levels, on the other hand, leads to great looking skin, less inflammation and a lot more natural energy.

Where Should I Start?

Raising your alkaline levels isn’t as hard as you think; it’s just going to take some determination and motivation on your part to feel great again.

For starters, you will want to avoid as much sugar, dairy, caffeine, alcohol and meat as possible since these types of food tend to be very acidic. While you don’t need to avoid these acidic foods 100 percent, it’s wise to make 80 percent of the food you consume alkaline and rest acidic.

1. Drink Lots of Water

Water is a wonderful way to clear out your excess toxins, and experts recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces throughout the day to keep your body system regulated. For example, if you were to weigh 150 pounds, you would want to drink 75 ounces at a minimum. For that extra alkaline boost, consider adding a pinch of lemon.

2. Dump the Tea for Coffee

Green tea is known to have high alkaline levels and even caffeine to help you feel naturally energized throughout the day.

3. Eat Lots of Greens

Any leafy green, no matter which one you prefer, will have high alkaline levels and high amounts of chlorophyll. Whether it’s a leafy salad or a fresh green smoothie, load up on as many leafy greens to keep your body running smoothly.

4. Use Natural Sweeteners

Sugar is known to be one of the most acidic types of food, and sadly, it pops up in just about anything we tend to eat. Instead of adding sugar to your coffee, consider a natural alternative such as coconut oil, honey or even stevia.

As you can see, higher alkaline levels are more important than you think. Now that you know which foods to look out for and how it affects your body, it’s time to make the right decision the next time you prepare a meal.
